Using structural pruning, our goal is to increase structural integrity, encourage health and longevity by pruning to one dominant leader.

Structural pruning selectively favors a single, dominant leader trunk by suppressing branches that are competing to be a leader using selective reduction cuts.  Selective cuts shorten stems back to lateral branches at least one-third the diameter of the cut stems.

  • Develop or maintain a dominant leader.

  • Identify the lowest branch in the permanent canopy.

  • Prevent branches below the permanent canopy from growing upright or too large.

  • Properly space main branches along the dominant trunk.

  • Keep all branches less than one-half the diameter of the trunk.

  • Suppress growth on branches with bark inclusion.

We were very sad to see our huge Maple go, but we couldn’t have asked for a better company to do the job. Everyone at Parshall was professional, courteous…and the guy who did the tree work knew exactly what he was doing. AA+++…highly recommend!

The Parshall crew’s display was very professional, safe and acrobatic, as they climbed and fell a mature 80 ft. oak tree, some of which hung over our second-story roof. Also, they didn’t crush any of the rhododendrons beneath the tree, were very friendly, courteous, and did a great job cleaning up.
