Reactive tree services do not pay! 12.10.2020
As a Regional Urban Forest Manager, I am privileged to see a perspective of the urban forest that many clients and property managers do not get to see. I visit hundreds of different properties, receive countless calls for emergency tree services, as well as individual tree emergency calls to remove and prune trees. In my quest to improve tree management, I see the damaging results that reactively managing trees causes vs. the value that proactively managing the trees on properties provides.
Too often, I arrive on a property to price out tree services and the first thought I have is that there is a better way for a client to manage the urban forest and tree services at their property. There is a lot of money being wasted on this random approach to hiring tree services reactively for a property.
Let’s look at one service: Tree Removals
Tree removal of an average size tree on a property can cost as much as two or three times the rate as if that exact same tree was removed or managed as part of a thought out, proactive comprehensive tree management plan. Not only does a client have the less expensive locked-in pricing for that removal, they have this information in their hands to make informed decisions months before the expense hits their budget. Or even worse, when this tree needs to be removed unexpectedly. Surprise tree services will always cost a property more. I see it over and over again, and these surprise tree services ALWAYS seem to happen at the most inconvenient time.
